Legally speaking…November 11, 2024
Today’s truth: Where I’m going matters way less than my traveling companion.
I love the Book of James, there is SO much pertaining to character, wisdom, trust, and submission. A big take way for me comes from Chapter 4:
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
There is ZERO percent wrong with making plans, even big ones. We’re called to seek purpose, work to eat, encourage others, meet together, fellowship, pray, praise, and rest. However, often in our best laid plans we forget that our plans aren’t our own, and we can’t truly do anything worth doing apart from Him.
I’m a destination girl; perhaps it’s what make my impatience so…impatient…y. I want to get to where I’m going, to see the end game. To know in the end we win and hear that “well done!” promised in scripture as we pursue His heart and purposes. (Matt 25:23)
When I feel impatient, I know my hope is in the plan, MY plan, and not in Him. In these moments, however, I can take heart; He WILL get me back on track…and I get to choose if I’ll be a willing participant. My ability to surrender and trust is directly correlated with how I experience and perceive the “delays”. He’s in the waiting…
Sure. We want to know. Often we feel like we need to know. But we don’t. Are you anxious for answers? Me too. Good news! They’re promised, so we can have every confidence they’re coming.
Jesus, please make us more able to trust in You, our Faithful Traveling Companion, and your goodness and purposes for us. Forgive us when we seek our own plans, borne of impatience and often fear. Please increase our patience, and help us experience Your joy and presence in the waiting. Please help us, me, be present in your fullness, here, now. Please overwhelm us with Your Spirit, and show us that we have purpose. The end-game, the destination is coming, it’s glorious…and we can wait for your perfect timing.
