Legally speaking…November 11, 2024
I shared previously the concept of the legal nature of the spiritual realm, something we’re a part of whether we realize it or not. I’d spoken to the legally binding nature of Christ’s sacrifice, once for all. I explained that it’s never been about what you did in action, but about the legally binding, accepted redemption we receive from Jesus, our defense.
Another way to think of it: a legal document. When executing a contract, all relevant parties sign on the line, yes? If only one party signs, is the agreement executed and binding? No.
If the agreement IS executed by both parties, is it then easy for a non-performing party to get out of it, especially if the other party still desires to maintain that contract? Nope.
The argument rages amongst believers regarding “once saved always saved” v. the possibility of “losing your salvation”. I’ve seen and believed both sides over time. On one hand, Paul tells us that nothing can separate us from Christ. Nothing means nothing, hence saved once always. But then, based on my previous post, He’s got to know you want it. If a person receives Christ at 14, but decides at 24 He’s a crock, does God still think they want to go to Heaven?
This is where I think our salvation becomes for HIS own sake; to prove HIS power, authority, and great love for us. In scripture, the faithful father never stopped loving the prodigal. The father’s homestead never stopped being the child’s homestead. The prodigal child may not have known this, but it didn’t change the truth. If we sign off our will to God, and Jesus covers us in His blood….He doesn’t WANT to let us go. We BELONG to Him. We are His cherished property, legally speaking. And we were very, very expensive. We are VALUABLE. When we give Him our will, He takes it permanently, IMHO.
We’re His and He’s keeping us.
Praise God for His faithfulness to His covenants with us.
