Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. -Matthew 6:48

It seems impossible, especially since scripture teaches that all sin and fall short of the glory of God. Scripture also says that in Christ, all things are possible. How do we reconcile this? “Be perfect, you sinner who could do all things in Christ if you really tried.”  Does that about sum it up?

Let’s unpack.  Would Jesus tell us to do something He didn’t also equip us to do?  Let’s take that a step farther: would Jesus tell us to BE something that we couldn’t be?  Recall we are human BEINGS, not human’s doing. Apart from Him, we can do nothing.

Recall too, that He came specifically because He knew without Him, we lacked the perfection needed to be in relationship with Our Father.  Light has no fellowship with darkness, or goodness with evil.  But God, Jesus, Spirit, our Light, causes darkness to quite literally disappear.  In this light we can finally see our battles were just a shadows cast by the evil one to distort our vision and self-perception.

Christ is all and is in all.  He and The Father are One.  And Christ made His dwelling in our hearts…which quite literally has to be well-lit perfection for Him to reside there.  AND HE DOES.  HAS.  ALWAYS WILL.

Give yourself the luxury if you would, for even a moment, to just BE.  Just BE the light that you truly are today.  Sense His Joy in your “just” being. Ask Him to open your eyes to the bright reflection of Himself that is you, the well-loved daughter of Our Mighty, Loving, Protective, Proud, Gentle Father.  Reflect your gratitude for salvation.  Shine Christ’s love into the dark places.

It’s okay.  He’s patient.  Take the time you need in opening your eyes…but have those sunglasses ready, because you’re radiant.
