Michigan as an Analogy

If you live in Michigan, you know you can dress for any season in any season. Our lovely state is full of surprises, one of which isn’t being consistently sunny. Matter of fact, we’re one of the cloudiest states in the country; less than 75 clear days a year. You didn’t know that. You are welcome. 😉

Sometimes He Comes in the Clouds

Here’s the thing about when you get used to the clouds: you forget how good it feels to be in the sunshine. How RIGHT. We get so used to the status quo, we often fall into harmful assumptions about our resigned, shady normalcy. We lose traction in our purpose or hope for our future, and forget that sunshine is possible any given day.

The other day I peeked out the window and was confused. I quite literally couldn’t identify the feeling I was having, but something was different and called for my attention.

And then I saw it. LIGHT. It has been SO doggone cloudy for so long, I’d forgotten sun was an option. I rushed outside to take it in, snap a quick pic, and as quickly as it appeared, it disappeared.

But that’s okay. Doesn’t mean the light isn’t still there, and I was incredibly grateful to my Father for the reminder. Sometimes He comes in the clouds. I believe His ultimate preference is for us to see Him as the absolute light He is…but He knows sometimes we experience storms. He sees every single one. He cares…and rescue is right there, not just hidden behind the clouds, but with us in them.

He meets us where we are. He is such a faithful friend, He’ll “stoop” to our level.

Remember; you may shame yourself at first, embarrassed that such a loving, provisioning, faithful, gentle God should have to stoop in the first place. You’ll think He shouldn’t have to go to the trouble…or even bother. If or when this happens, be gentle with yourself. He is, and you’re new at this! Patience is also one of our Father’s more fabulous qualities!

Stooping though? That’s a lie. Straight from hell. Remember: Our Jesus kneels. Our Jesus serves. And heck yeah we should be humbled by that. But not shamed. Grateful. When He kneels to meet us in our weakness, He’s simply reflecting HIS character and HIS love for us. Our Good Father and Big Brother have been running to us from a long way off, serving our spirits, loving, protecting, and saving us since before creating the concept of time.

If Jesus thinks so (and He does), you’re worth kneeling for. And he deserves our kneeling in return, both by service to our communities in gratitude for what He has done, and reverence to our Mighty God. I type this and I can feel my spirit swell with the truth of it.

He’s given us His light. We are radiant. Let’s encourage each other to remember that even if we can’t see the light, we can BE it….and as is so often the case…isn’t that when we begin to see it again?
