And the thunder said, “You’re Welcome”.

It’s been a dry summer, the farmers commenting on the need for rain for weeks. Storms were anticipated that just never seemed to land. I woke early and did my morning prayer time in the garage, disappointed that once again the downpour needed hadn’t arrived.

So I prayed. I prayed specifically that it would indeed rain, and despite the light forecast, that it would be intense. Not 30 seconds later…torrents. Torrents, people. I walk for ~90 minutes, and it rained the entire time. Several minutes in, a grin plastered to my face as I enjoyed the senses piqued during showers, I said aloud, “THANK YOU.”

It was a rainstorm, not electrical. In response, a single roll of thunder seemed to say, “You’re welcome”, an immediate reply.

God is so very good. We so often look for His presence in the big messes or wins, but He’s everywhere, in everything. I think He takes a personal pleasure in revealing Himself in the “small stuff” that we so easily overlook as we are so often dragged along by our days. And in those moments when we see it, and that simple joy of knowing we’re heard is validated has us grinning ear to ear…I think He’s grinning too. He wants to be seen just as badly as we do.

Heavenly Father, as we go about our busy lives, so distracted to the truth that Christ is all and is in all, please stop us today. Please insert yourself by way of gentle reminders and pleasant surprises. Share your joy with us today, Lord. Show us how loved we are and remind us once again that you are keenly aware of us. We’re made in your image, so please, let our awareness of you and your goodness be ever-increasing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
