“I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for His name’s sake.” -1 John 2:12
We are loved so much that our Father sacrificed His only Son, and His Son agreed we were worth His suffering. Because of this love, Jesus didn’t come to condemn, but to cleanse us of every unrighteousness. They did and do all things for Love. Of US. Just wow.
But then there are days I don’t feel so righteous. On days I’m feeling less than stellar about my thoughts, actions, or lack-there-of, I catch doubt about my eternal security slipping into my mind. I often in spirit cry, “I believe, only help my unbelief!”
It’s insane how easily we can fall in and out of belief; in ourselves, our salvation, even in the very power of God to do what He says He’ll do. We are SO forgetful. I was feeling some of that this morning. I know I’m enough. WE know as believers nothing can steal our eternity in Christ. But some days, I just don’t feel like it. How about you? Are there days you know in your mind that you’re loved and provided for, but for whatever reason, you feel a little less secure in grace?
What if I told you we are saved by grace through faith, and He is eternally sufficient…but His love for us isn’t the only reason He’s so faithful?
Listening to The Word this morning I heard, “Your sins are forgiven for His name’s sake“. It’s not the only time He says it either:
“He leads me on paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” -Psalm 23: 3
“I, I am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” -Isaiah 43:25
“Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory.” -John 17:24
What does this mean? It means that while we are infinitely loved, cherished, worthy, and covered in grace, this isn’t exclusively out of love for us that we’re covered by this all-sufficient grace. And that’s okay. It’s a giant relief, really.
God isn’t having an identity crisis. He knows how great He is. He knows what He’s worth and what He deserves. While we often miss opportunities to point to Him, He remains faithful. It’s a blessing to us. But it’s also a demonstration of His power, bringing glory to His own name, each time He demonstrates His ability to save regardless of our sin.
SO: If today you fee like maybe you just don’t have what it takes, know two things: 1. you do. 2. if you can’t believe this for yourself today, believe what He says about HIMSELF. HE wants you. HE is your strength made perfect in human weakness. He knows He deserves all the glory.
He’ll prove His glory through you. In love. For His own sake.
